Moolahgo winner of 2026 ABF Fintech Award for Cross-border Payments
13 August, 2026

Moolahgo has been named the winner of the Cross-Border Payments Award at the 2026 Asian Banking & Finance Fintech Awards, recognizing its work in making cross-border payments more accessible through its mobile wallet app, moolahPAY.

For many people, cross-border payments are part of everyday life.

  • A migrant worker sending money home to family.
  • A Singapore traveler paying for lunch in Vietnam.
  • A consumer transferring funds to an overseas digital wallet.

While these transactions may appear simple on the surface, they often involve different currencies, payment networks and financial systems.

Moolahgo’s moolahPAY digital wallet was built to reduce this friction, bringing remittances, foreign exchange and digital payments together in a mobile-first experience.

The 2026 Asian Banking & Finance Fintech Awards recognition reflects Moolahgo’s continued focus on building payment solutions that are convenient, inclusive and designed around the needs of people who regularly move money across borders.

Making Cross-Border Payments More Local

Cross-border payments do not always need to feel “cross-border.”

That is the thinking behind moolahPAY.

The digital wallet enables users to send money internationally while also accessing supported local payment networks when traveling overseas. Instead of relying solely on international cards or carrying foreign cash, users can use local QR payment infrastructure through moolahPAY.

One example is VietQR Scan & Pay.

Singapore users can use moolahPAY to scan participating VietQR codes at merchants in Vietnam and pay in Vietnamese dong, while funding their wallet in Singapore dollars.

The currency conversion and payment processing happen real-time within the moolahPAY app, removing the need to separately exchange and carry Vietnamese dong or US dollars before making everyday purchases.

For consumers, the experience is simple: scan, pay and go. (See our VietQR FAQ for more information.)

Behind that simplicity is Moolahgo’s payment infrastructure, connecting different currencies and local payment ecosystems.

Expanding Cross-Border Payment Connectivity

Southeast Asia has one of the world’s most diverse payment landscapes, with markets such as Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines developing their own domestic payment and QR ecosystems.

Moolahgo is continuing to expand moolahPAY’s connectivity with these local payment networks, with QR Ph Scan & Pay for the Philippines coming soon.

The expansion will give moolahPAY users another way to access local QR payment infrastructure when travelling, further supporting Moolahgo’s vision of making payments across Asia simpler and more familiar.

By connecting a Singapore-based digital wallet to domestic payment networks in different markets, moolahPAY is building a more connected payment experience for people who travel, work, shop or send money across Southeast Asia.

Beyond Travel: Cross-Border Remittances and Transfers

For many moolahPAY users, cross-border payments are not about travel.

They are about family.

Remittances are an important financial service for migrant workers and other people living away from their home countries. Sending money home can be a regular financial commitment, supporting household expenses, education and other needs for family members.

moolahPAY provides cross-border remittance services that allow users to send money to supported bank accounts and digital wallets internationally.

Moolahgo’s cross-border payment network supports transfers to more than 40 countries, helping users stay financially connected with people and communities across borders. Moolahgo also supports international wallet-to-wallet transfers, providing another way for users to move money across markets.

moolahPAY was built on the simple philosophy that financial services should be accessible to everyone, especially those who regularly live, work and send money across borders. At its foundation, the wallet was developed around a principle of financial inclusion — making essential financial services more accessible, convenient and relevant to people living and working across borders.

Financial Inclusion as a Core Part of moolahPAY

Financial inclusion has been part of Moolahgo’s corporate strategy since the company’s expansion into digital financial services.

In 2023, Moolahgo won the Asia Fintech Diversity and Inclusion Award, recognizing its efforts to make digital financial services more accessible to underserved and underbanked communities. moolahPAY was developed in response to the barriers migrant workers in Singapore often face in accessing safe, reliable, affordable and user-friendly financial services.

This philosophy continues to shape the development of moolahPAY.

Traditional financial products are not always designed around the needs of people who live and work across borders. Language, accessibility, minimum balance requirements, fees and familiarity with banking operations can all become barriers.

moolahPAY addresses some of these barriers through a mobile-first experience that brings multiple financial services into one application.

Its capabilities include:

  • Cross-border remittances for sending money internationally
  • International wallet-to-wallet transfers
  • Foreign exchange for managing different currencies
  • QR payments for cashless transactions
  • Bill and payment services for everyday financial needs
  • Multilingual support to make the platform easier to navigate
  • Stablecoin wallet top-up for an additional way to fund the moolahPAY wallet
  • Mobile-first access, allowing users to manage their finances through a smartphone

The objective is not simply to digitise payments, but to make digital financial services more accessible to people who may have traditionally been underserved by conventional financial systems.

moolahPAY is also expanding the ways users can access and fund their digital wallet. Stablecoin top-up is now available, providing an additional funding option for users who hold digital assets and want to use them within a regulated digital payment environment.

Offering multiple funding options alongside traditional payment channels allows moolahPAY to accommodate a wider range of user needs and financial behaviours, while continuing to operate within the regulatory framework governing its payment services.

An ESG Approach to Digital Financial Services

For Moolahgo, financial inclusion is also connected to its broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda.

The social dimension is particularly relevant to moolahPAY because digital financial services can help underserved communities participate more fully in the formal financial ecosystem.

A financial service can have meaningful social impact when it makes essential transactions — such as sending money home — more accessible, transparent and convenient.

For moolahPAY, this means designing around the real financial needs and behaviors of people who regularly send money across borders, while recognizing that traditional banking products may not serve every community equally well.

Building a More Connected Payment Experience for Asia

Asia’s payment ecosystem is becoming increasingly interconnected.

Domestic QR payment networks are expanding. Digital wallets are becoming more widely adopted. Consumers are travelling more frequently across the region, while millions of people continue to live and work away from their home countries.

But connectivity between payment systems is only meaningful if consumers can actually access and use it.

Moolahgo believes the next phase of cross-border payments will be about connecting these local ecosystems in ways that are simple and practical for end users.

moolahPAY is part of that vision.

From sending remittances to family overseas, to scanning a VietQR code at a restaurant in Vietnam, to accessing new payment capabilities such as QRPh Scan & Pay and stablecoin top-up, the wallet continues to evolve around the real needs of people who move, work, spend and manage money across borders.

The Cross-Border Payments Award – Singapore from Asian Banking & Finance is recognition of that journey — and of Moolahgo’s continued commitment to building more accessible, inclusive and connected financial services for Asia.

Cross-border payments should not be a barrier to moving, working, traveling, or supporting the people who matter. With moolahPAY, Moolahgo is working to make them simpler for everyone.
